Team News
Bolton centre-back Gary Cahill is available to face his old club Aston Villa at the Reebok Stadium after his red card from the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham was rescinded.

Fellow defender David Wheater misses out again as he serves the second game of a four-match ban for his sending off in the previous fixture, a 2-0 loss to Everton.

Midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker – another former Villa man – is a doubt due to a hamstring problem.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan will make his first Premier League start of the season against Bolton.

He replaces Shay Given, who is sidelined for a month with a hamstring injury.

Midfielder Jermaine Jenas has been ruled out for the season after surgery to his Achilles.

Defender Eric Lichaj is Villa's only other casualty and is poised to return to training in the new year.

Match Notes
Alex McLeish has hardly been made to feel welcome at Villa Park and a run that has brought just five points in seven games has done nothing to quell supporters’ discontent.

A first away win of the season would stave off some of the criticism directed the Villa manager’s way and divert attention towards his good friend Owen Coyle.

The Bolton manager retains the strong support of chairman Phil Gartside but three wins in 14 league games confirms Wanderers’ plight.

Stat of the game: Villa have gone 312 minutes with scoring in the Premier League.

Betting: Home 7-5, Away 17-10 Draw 11-5.
